The D-Sub connectors (long form D-Subminiature) are named after their design, which which is reminiscent of the letter ‘D’. The multipole connectors were originally developed in 1952 for data transmission.

Compact D-Sub Connector
Thus, the series 114-6 completes W+P`s product range with a connector pair especially for the IDC flat cable sector. Due to pressed dimensions of about 14.20mm without strain relief, or approx. 18.80mm with relief, these attractive dimensions meet the needs of ever decreasing sizes of devices. Suitable ribbon cables in the AWG range 28, round off the complete package with the 3560 series.
The housings are classically offered in steel (nickel-plated) or optionally in full plastic. Insulators are provided in black as standard, grey and blue are also available on request.
Various mounting options
There is a choice of mounting options: Metal fronts with through hole, with UNC 4-40 or with M3 threaded bolts, furthermore a thermoplastic version with through hole. The IDC D-Sub male and female connectors are deliverable in 09, 15, 25 and 37 pins.
A copper alloy with a gold-plated surface over a nickel barrier layer is available as contact material. The contact resistance is less than 20 mW, the current rating 1 A, with a maximum current carrying capacity up to 3 A. Safe function is guaranteed in a temperature range of –55°C to +105°C.
